WBS Squeaks Past The Bruins To Advance

Rookie Conor Sheary scored his fifth playoff goal this season on Wednesday night, as the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins surpassed the Providence Bruins in Game 7 of the Calder Cup Playoffs, advancing them to the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Penguins, AHL affiliate to the Pittsburgh Penguins, possessed a five goal lead in the first half of the second period, and it looked as though it would be smooth sailing past the Bruins. Providence however, was not going to go down without a fight and an impressive rally ensued. A shorthanded goal from Bruins defenseman David Warsofsky at the end of the second period sparked life into their offense.

True to the saying for the Penguins that no lead is safe, and Providence slipped three more unanswered goals past WBS goaltender Peter Mannino in the third period. A frantic WBS somehow managed to hold on to a one goal lead and defeat the Bruins 5-4, despite their spectacular comeback attempt.

The Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins will make an appearance in the Calder Cup Eastern Conference Finals for the second year in a row. Now it is on to the St. John’s IceCaps; the first two games of the best-of-seven series will begin Saturday, May 24, in St. John’s and be scheduled as follows:
