Top 5 ECHL Eastern Conference Teams

We are over a month into this years ECHL season and some teams have separated themselves from the pack. It is still early but these teams look like the odds on favorite to represent the Eastern Conference in this year’s Kelly Cup.

5. Orlando Solar Bears (9-6-0-2)

The Solar Bears lead the league with 61 goals. Forward Greg Miller knows how to put the puck in the net. His 10 goals and eight assists are good enough to have him at the top of the league in points. The play between the pipe has been shaky and they will need to continue to score to be a playoff team.

4. Elmira Jackals (9-3-0-3)

The Jackals are 7-1-0-2 in their last 10 games after a slow start. Forwards Taylor Stefishen, Allan McPherson and Brayden Irwin have provided the offensive punch the team has needed. Look for Elmira to continue playing solid hockey.

3. Fort Wayne Komets (11-4-0-0)

Fort Wayne can score. Their problem is they play no defense. So far it has worked out for the Komets and it looks like they will need to continue to score in order to win games. Forwards Shawn Szydlowski (6 G, 17 Pts) and Mitchell Heard (10 G, 16 Pts) have led the way offensively.

2. Toledo Walleyes (10-3-0-1)

They have a dynamic forward Anthony Luciani, who leads the league in points with 20 along with goalie Jeff Lerg, who is second in the league in GAA with a  1.89. The are second in the league in goals with 58 and have been on fire since their 2-2 start. If the Walleyes can continue to this pace they’ll be Kelly Cup favorites.

1. Florida Everblades (11-2-0-1)

The Everblades have been stellar. Winning nine of their last 10, they have been the hottest team in the league. On offense they’ve posted 4.6 goals per game with a group of defenseman leading a way. Matt Mangene, Mike Little and Cameron Burt are all at the top of the team in points. Their well balanced attack has put them at the top of the standings. Look for that to continue.
