Russia Shutouts Finland 3-0

The Russians took down Finland 3-0 Thursday at the Air Canada Center in Toronto to move on to the semifinals. Team North America was knocked out of the tournament with Russia’s victory.

“We played against (Canada) in the preseason game and obviously it was a huge mentally game for us,” Ovechkin told Sportsnet after his team’s win over Finland. “For us, we play against (Canada) almost every time. It’s no secret that they’re gonna be very aggressive, they’re gonna play a very physical game. We just have to play our style of game and try to beat them.”

Vladimir Tarasenko opened the scoring with a solid feed from Alex Ovechkin at the 3:42 mark. Ivan Telegin added to Russia’s lead 90 seconds later. The final goal of the battle came from Evgeni Malkin in the third period.

Russia will now face-off against Team Canada on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.
